05-31-08
At
17:03 on Saturday, May 31, 264 Truck along with Stations 261, 164, 262 Truck, and 149 RIT were dispatched for a reported
stove on fire inside of a residential structure at 403 West Sutter Road in Shaler
Township. (261's District). 264 Truck was immediately in route. The caller called back
and reported that he had shut off the gas to
the stove and believes that the fire was out, however he still wanted the fire department
to respond. PD arrived on the scene advising that the fire units could
slow their response and will only need 1 unit to check the residence.
261 Assistant arrived on scene and reported a 2 story brick structure with
nothing showing from the exterior. He requested 261 Engine respond non-emergency and all
other units to hold on station. A fireground was issued
and 261 Chief then took command. It turned out to be a self-cleaning oven
with plastic burning inside. All units with the exception of 261 went back in
service at 17:15.

At 20:34 on Memorial Day, Monday May 26, Stations 264 and
261 were dispatched for a commercial fire alarm activation at the Shaler Area
Intermediate School, 1800 Mount Royal Blvd. in Shaler Township. (264's
District). 264 Truck was immediately in route and 264 Engine and Squad were
right behind them. PD arrived on the scene and reported nothing showing
and requested 264 Truck stage on the library side of the building as that is
where they believed the point of activation to be. The alarm panel was
reading activation on the roof. 264 Truck crew went to the roof and
investigated and nothing was found. All units were back in service at
20:58.

At 12:55 on Wednesday May 21, Station 264 along with Station
261 and 164 Rescue 1 were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident with
entrapment at the intersection of Vilsack Road and Lucille Streets in Shaler
Township. (261's District). Caller reported a vehicle into a pole with a
man inside. PD arrived on the scene and reported no entrapment but will
still need the fire department for containment. 264 Assistant arrived on
the scene and reported one man still inside. He was self-extricated
and 264 Assistant canceled 164 Rescue. 264 Engine responded to handle the
containment detail. 261 Rescue also responded. During the
containment, crews also extinguished a small engine compartment fire with a foam
extinguisher. All units were back in service at 13:24.

At 23:26 on Monday May 19, Station 264 was dispatched for a possible CO
condition inside of a residence at 1438 Butler Plank Road in Shaler Township.
(264's District). The homeowner believed that it may be a malfunctioning
heater. 264 Engine and Squad responded to investigate. After an
investigation of the residence, nothing was found. All 264 units were back
in service at 23:48.

At 18:33 on Monday May 19, 264
Truck along with 164, 165, and 188 were dispatched for a residential structure
fire at 4340 Winchester Drive in Hampton Township. (164's District).
Multiple callers reported a back deck on fire spreading inside the house.
264 Truck immediately had a full crew and was the first unit enroute,
within 2 minutes of dispatch. 264 Engine was not far behind. 164
FP-7 reported heavy smoke showing from Mount Royal Blvd. 188 Deputy
arrived on scene and confirmed heavy fire in the rear of the house on the deck
and that it was quickly spreading to the house. 164 Chief arrived on scene
and assumed command. 188 Deputy reported extension to the attic as
well. 188 Engine was first on scene and hit the hydrant. Interior
teams began their attack. All other companies arrived on scene and
assisted with operations. Upon arrival on scene, 264 Truck team was order
to ladder the building and ventilate the roof. 164 Command requested
Duquesne Light and Dominion Peoples Gas be notified, as well as Hampton Water
due to the open hydrant. At 19:03, 164 Command reported that the fire had
been knocked down and that crews were checking for extension and beginning
overhaul. He also had requested that the Allegheny County Fire Marshall be
notified to respond to the scene. At 19:34, 164 Command reported the scene
under control and that all units were going to remain on
scene continuing overhaul. At 20:08, Winchester Command reported
that the fire marshall was on scene. At 20:20, 264 Engine went back into
service. 264 Truck returned in service at 20:28.

Just after 14:00 on Sunday May 18, Station 264 along with
261 Rescue 3 were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident with injuries in front
of the Shaler Area Intermediate School, 1800 Mount Royal Blvd. (264's
District). Shaler Fire Police 325-14 was on scene and reported no
need for the fire department and that no one was injured. 261 Assistant
said that his rescue would cancel. 264 Captain arrived on scene and
reported no need for 264 units either. All units were back in service
within 5 minutes.

At 09:53 on Saturday May 17, Station 264 along
with Stations 262, 174, 263, 149, and 325 Fire Police were dispatched for a
Commercial Fire Alarm at the Shaler Villa Fire Company, 960 Saxonburg Blvd. in
Shaler Township. As per 262 Chief, they have been having problems with the
system and that all units could return in service. All units were back in
service at 10:00.

At 19:23 on Friday May 16, Station 264 along with
Stations 259, 246, 260, and 239 RIT were alerted for reported smoke coming from the rear
of a residential structure at 514 Woodhaven Court in Shaler Township.
(259's District). PD arrived on the scene and reported a house
full of smoke, possibly a working structure fire and that all occupants
were out of the house. They reported a hydrant at Bray and Lederer
Streets. 259 Engine arrived on scene and reported smoke from the garage
area and that 259 Chief would have command. 259 crews went in to
attack and reported a working basement fire. They then reported that it
was contained to the dryer. 259 Command requested all units slow their
response due to it just being a dryer fire. 259 Engine crew extinguished
the fire. 264 Truck crew searched divisions 1 and 2 and found
nothing. 264 Engine staged on side Alpha. 264 Crews assisted with
the removal of the dryer. A fireground was issued and all 264 units were
returned shortly after at 20:04.

Service Detail on Mount Royal Blvd near Vilsack Road in 261's
District. The Truck went out at 14:05 and was back in service at
approximately 15:00.

At
10:38 on Friday May 16, Station 264 along with 261 Rescue
3, 164 Rescue 1, and Shaler EMS 170 were dispatched for a reported motor vehicle
accident with entrapment on Wetzel Road at the entrance to Kiwanis Park.
(264's District). Multiple callers reported one male unconscious and
trapped. Then the confirmed 2 females in the vehicle. PD arrived on
the scene and requested EMS and Rescue expedite. 264 Assistant went to the
scene and 261 Assistant requested 312 Rescue 40 be dispatched as well. 264
Assistant arrived and held 261 and 164 on Station. PD requested Shaler
Fire Police 325 to shut down the road. 164 Fire Police assisted due to no
response from 325. At 10:50, 264 Chief reported all patients in the medic
units and that the vehicle was stabilized and that clean-up was beginning.
All units were clear and back in service at 11:10.

At 15:42 on Monday May 12, Station 264 along
with Stations 262, 174, 263, 149, and 325 Fire Police were dispatched once
again for a Commercial Fire Alarm at the Shaler Villa Fire Company, 960
Saxonburg Blvd. in Shaler Township. PD advised that there was an alarm
earlier in the day. 262 quickly got on the air and disregarded everyone
again. All units were back in service at 15:45.

At 03:43 on Monday
May 12, Station 264 was dispatched for a pumping detail at 231 Delaware Drive.
(261's District). Station 261 was alerted twice and had no response, so
264 handled the call. The water department has been notified 2 hours
prior, however PD had requested the fire department to respond in the meantime
to migrate the situation. 264 Engine responded and removed several inches
of water from the basement. 264 Engine returned in service at
04:43.

At 19:49 on Saturday May 10, Station 264 was alerted for a
CO alarm with no ill effects at 115 East Undercliff Street in 264's
District. 264 Engine and Squad were immediately in route and 264 Captain
had Command. Crews went into the residence and had readings of 40 PPM in
the basement, 35 PPM on the first floor, and 15 PPM on the second floor.
Dominion Peoples Gas Company was notified and had no ETA. A fireground was
issued and crews began ventilation of the structure and had the residents leave
the house until the gas company arrived. After a little bit of
ventilation, there were still high readings in the house. Round 2 of
ventilation cleared the house, however Dominion still needed to respond.
Command was terminated and 264 units cleared the scene at
20:31.

Engine participated in a Public Service Detail along Mount Royal Blvd in 264's
District. Units went out at 08:30 and were back in service at
10:00.
Call # 82 05-07-08
At 18:44 on Wednesday May 7,
264 Truck along with Station 261, 164 Engine 1, 262 Truck, and
149 RIT were dispatched for a report of some kind of fire on the roof of Giant
Eagle, 1700 William Flynn Highway (Route 8). (261's District). The
caller stated that there was a transformer installed earlier in the day.
PD arrived on the scene and requested that units go to the back of the building
where they installed the transformer. They then reported no fire at the
building. 164 Assistant arrived on scene and reported nothing showing
on the roof. The fire department was requested to check the building for
any problems (mainly the roof area). 164 Assistant went to the roof and
reported it was an overheated motor. All units were downgraded to a
non-emergency response and a fireground was issued. Command reported it
was in fact the fan motor that was overheated. He held 262 Truck and
Engine and returned the rest of the units. All units were back in service
at 19:04.

At approximately 17:30 on Wednesday May 7, Station 264 along
with Station 262 were dispatched for a vehicle fire close to 3 other vehicles in
the parking lot of the Taco Bell in the 900 block of Butler Street (aka Route 8)
in Shaler Township. (262's District). PD arrived on the scene and
reported it was just an overheated vehicle and that the fire department could
disregard. 262 Engine proceeded in non-emergency to verify and 264 units
went back in service at approximately 17:35.

At 11:45 on Wednesday May 7, Station 264 along with Station
261, 164 Rescue, and Shaler EMS were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident
with containment at the intersection of Eade Avenue and Mount Royal Blvd in
Shaler Township. (261's District). PD arrived on the scene and requested 2
medic units and for the fire department to pull onto Eade Avenue for the
containment detail. 261 Assistant had Command. He moved everybody to
a fireground and after a short period of time, all units were returned on
service at 12:10.

At 16:01 on Tuesday May 6, Station 264 was dispatched for a
smell of natural gas outside in the area of the Mount Royal Inn, 151 Mount Royal
Blvd. Caller reported from the Inn going up the hill toward
Undercliff. 264 Assistant went to the scene and 264 Engine and Squad also
responded. After a brief investigation, 264 Assistant reported nothing
found and all units were returned in service at 16:09.

At 06:40 on Tuesday May 6, Station 264 along with
261 Rescue 3 and 164 Rescue 1 were dispatched for a reported motor vehicle accident
with unknown injuries and fluids all over the road at the intersection of
Mount Royal Blvd and Shaw Place. (264's District). PD arrived quickly
on scene and reported no need for fire or EMS. All units returned
in service at 06:44.

At 23:13 on Saturday May 3, Station 264 was alerted for a
reported telephone pole on fire at 1440 William Flynn Highway. A further
report placed it near the Glenshaw Crossing next to Former State Representative
Jeff Haybay's office. 264 Captain arrived on scene and confirmed fire on
the pole. Duquesne Light was notified. Shaler Fire Police 325 were
dispatched to assist with traffic control on Glenn Avenue and Butler Plank
Road. Duquesne Light arrived on scene at 00:01 and a firegroud was
issued. All 264 Units returned in service at
01:17.
