MARCH 2009 INCIDENTS

Call # 47   03-31-09

At 14:25 on Tuesday, March 31, Station 264, 261 Rescue 3, 149 Rescue 1, and Shaler Fire Police 325 were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment at the intersection of Glenn Avenue and Mount Royal Boulevard in Shaler Township. (264's District).  There was 2 elderly individuals, one complaining of neck pain and the driver entrapped with the door smashed in.  Units on scene worked quickly and extricated the patient.  All units went back into service at 14:44.


Call # 46   03-24-09

At 18:05 on Tuesday, March 24, 264 Truck along with Stations 164, 165, 261 were dispatched for a reported a fully involved garage fire at 2483 Royal View Drive in Hampton Township. (164's District).  164 Chief arrived on scene and reported smoke showing.  At 18:22, the fire was knocked down and units began checking for extension.  After a brief clean-up, all 264 units went back into service at 18:48.


Call # 45   03-24-09

At 17:11 on Tuesday, March 24, Station 264 was dispatched for a brush fire in front of the Post Office at 1541 Butler Plank Road in Shaler Township. (264's District).  264 Engine responded and extinguished the fire.  All 264 units went back into service at 17:27.


Call # 44   03-22-09

At 12:56 on Sunday, March 22, Station 264 was dispatched for a CO alarm with no ill effects at 1807 Shaler Drive in Shaler Township. (264's District).  264 Engine responded and found the problem to be the furnace.  264 Engine went back into service at 13:14.


Call # 43   03-20-09

Around 17:45 on Friday, March 20, Station 264 along with Stations 261 and 164 were dispatched for a gasoline leak inside of a residential structure on Illinois Avenue in Shaler Township. (261's District).  164 Assistant arrived and disregarded all units except for 261.  264 went back into service at 18:00.


Call # 42   03-20-09

At 00:10 on Friday, March 20, Station 264 was dispatched for a transformer fire in the area of 1490 Green Avenue in Shaler Township. (264's District).  264 Engine arrived on scene and reported the entire area was without power.  Duquesne Light was notified and all units went back into service at 00:28.


Call # 41   03-14-09

At 11:00 on Saturday, March 14, Station 264 along with 262 Engine 1 were dispatched for a residential fire alarm activation at 231 Alma Street in Shaler Township. (264's District).  264 Captain arrived on scene and reported a false activation.  All units went back into service at 11:15.


Call # 40   03-12-09

At 15:18 on Thursday, March 12, Station 264 along with 261 Engine 1 were dispatched for a commercial fire alarm activation at the Shaler Oaks, 1122 Mount Royal Boulevard, in Shaler Township. (264's District).  Shaler PD arrived on scene and reported a false activation from workers drilling into a wall.  All units went back into service at 15:21.


Call # 39   03-12-09

At 01:47 on Thursday, March 12, Station 264 along with 261 Engine 1 were dispatched for a commercial fire alarm activation at Three Rivers Harley Davidson, 1463 Glenn Avenue, in Shaler Township. (264's District).  A key holder responded to the scene and nothing was found.  All units went back into service at 02:06.


Call # 38   03-11-09

Just after 15:00 on Wednesday, March 11, Station 264 along with Stations 261, 262, and 149 RIT were dispatched for a natural gas leak inside of a residential structure at 212 Lucille Street in Shaler Township. (261's District).  Units investigated and discovered the leak coming a hot water tank.  Units shut the gas off to the tank and all units went back into service at 15:45.


Call # 37   03-10-09

At 20:35 on Tuesday, March 10, Station 264 along with Station 149 were dispatched for reported heavy smoke in the area, possibly coming from an abandoned house, in the area of Kittanning Street and Route 8 in the Borough of Etna. (149's District).  Several callers reported seeing and smelling smoke in the area.  149 Chief reported heavy smoke in the entire valley and requested an upgrade to a full structure fire assignment.  265 Truck, 260 Engine 1, and 102 RIT were added to the assignment.  The smoke began to dissipate.  Units continued to search the area and several bystanders claim it may have been coming from Farrel Field in Sharps Hill.  Nothing was found and all units went back into service at 20:48.


Call # 36   03-06-09

At 18:05 on Friday, March 6, Station 264 along with Station 149 were dispatched for a possible gas leak outside at the Etna Ballfield, 27 Crescent Avenue, in the Borough of Etna. (149's District).  149 Chief was on scene and requested 264 units disregard and that Equitable Gas was working there.  All units went back into service at 18:10.


Call # 35   03-04-09

At 11:43 on Wednesday, March 4, 264 Engine along with Station 263, 218 Engine 2, 262 Truck, 149 Rescue 1, and 102 RIT were dispatched for a brush fire in the back yard of a residence, reported to be close to the house, at 622 Badali Drive in Shaler Township. (263's District).  Caller called back and reported that her husband put the fire out.  263 went to confirm that everything was fine, and all units went back into service at 11:51. 


Call # 34   03-03-09

At 07:56 on Tuesday, March 3, Station 264 along with 261 Engine 1 were dispatched for a commercial fire alarm activation at the Glenshaw Presbyterian Church, 300 Glenn Avenue, in Shaler Township. (264's District).  The fire alarm had been going off for three hours and the janitor then called it in.  264 Chief (Hepner) arrived on scene and confirmed a false alarm.  All units went back into service at 08:02.
