JUNE 2008 INCIDENTS

Call # 110   06-26-08

At 12:30 on Thursday, June 26, 264 Truck along with Stations 261 and 164 Engine 1 were dispatched for a residential fire alarm activation at 310 Laurel Hill Road in Shaler Township. (261's District).  261 Assistant responded into the scene.  He arrived on scene at 12:34 and reported a two story residential structure with nothing showing.  At 12:38, 261 Chief advised that there is an elderly female at the residence, has a medical alarm, and that the alarm was set off the other day and they could not gain access.  Shaler PD was requested to assist in gaining entry to the residence.  261 Assistant requested all units respond in non-emergency.  At 12:41, 261 Assistant reported that he had spoken to neighbors that said that the resident drives and there was no vehicle on the property and that they would assist PD in gaining access.  At 12:51, the alarm company disconnected the alarm which alerts police, fire, and EMS, and that the resident was advised via voicemail.  The residence was secured and all units were back in service at 13:01.


Call # 109   06-24-08

At 17:42 on Tuesday, June 24, Station 264 along with Stations 149, 102 RIT, and 325 Fire Police were dispatched for a gas grill on fire about one foot from the garage at 311 Mount Royal Blvd. in Shaler Township. (264's District).  262 Truck was also added to the assignment.  At 17:47, 264 Chief requested all units disregard except for 264 Squad.  264 Chief released all units at 17:47, reporting no hazards on scene.  All 264 units were back in service at 17:48.


Call # 108   06-23-08

At 19:13, on Monday, June 23, Station 264 along with Station 261 and 164 Rescue were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident with hazards in front of 3710 Mount Royal Blvd. in Shaler Township. (261's District).  Multiple callers reported one vehicle into some trees and into a telephone pole and that the car was smoking.  261 Assistant arrived on scene at 19:19 and assumed command.  He reported one vehicle into the woods with moderate front end damage and a telephone pole sheered off.  He requested 164 Rescue disregard.  Shaler Fire Police 325 were dispatched to shut down Mount Royal Blvd. and Willet Road and Elfinwild Road.  Shaler PD 2113 requested Verizon for the pole that was totally severed at 19:52.  All fire units were back in service at 19:56. 


Call # 107   06-22-08

At 18:40 on Sunday, June 22, 264 Truck along with Stations 261 and 164 Engine 1 were dispatched for a residential fire alarm activation at 310 Laurel Hill Road in Shaler Township. (261's District).  Also with the fire alarm, a general panic alarm was activated.  there was an elderly female on scene with no passcode.  The alarm company stated she was pushing all the buttons and was not sure what the problem was there.  At 18:44, 164 Assistant arrived on scene and reported a two story residential structure with nothing showing.  261 Chief arrived on scene at 18:46.  At 18:48, Shaler PD reported that they were  unable to get a hold of the female on scene.  They did finally get access to the residence.  No problem at the house and all units were back in service at 18:50.


Call # 106   06-22-08

At 11:28 on Sunday, June 22, Station 264 along with Station 261 were dispatched for a Commercial Fire Alarm Activation at 1463 Glenn Avenue in Shaler Township at Three Rivers Harley Davidson. (264's District).  At 11:32 Shaler PD and 264 Lieutenant 1 arrived on scene and reported nothing showing.  There was a problem with getting a key holder to respond.  All units were back in service at 11:47.  Note: A 264 firefighter was injured putting on bunker gear.  A minor laceration to the hand was treated with a bandaid.


Call # 105   06-21-08

At 21:13 on Saturday, June 21, 264 Truck along with Stations 259, 246 Engine 2, 260 Rescue, and 239 RIT were dispatched for a reported house struck by lightning in the area of the Shaler Area High School at 381 Wible Run Road in Shaler Township. (259's District).  Caller reported seeing a red glow from the house.  A moment after units were alerted, county dispatch reported an error in dispatch and that this would be in the area of the Shaler Area Intermediate School, 1800 Mount Royal Blvd. in Shaler Township. (Now 264's District).  County advised all units to stand-by for the proper dispatch and Station 264 along with Stations 261, 262, 102 RIT, and 325 Fire Police were alerted.  264 Chief went to the scene.  At 21:19, Shaler PD advised the fire department to proceed with caution, that nothing had been found yet.  At 21:26, county advised that the caller was at the Shaler North Hills Library, doesn't live in the area, and has pointed out the house to Shaler Police Officer 2111 and it was across the street from the library.  At 21:26, 264 Chief reported that all units can disregard, that it was just a flickering light inside of a house.  All units were back in service at 21:27. 



Call # 104   06-18-08

At 09:26 on Wednesday, June 18, a call was placed into Station 264 reporting another rekindle of the house at 209 Hoffman Street in Shaler Township. (264's District).  NO FURTHER INFORMATION AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME PENDING THE ALLEGHENY COUNTY FIRE MARSHAL'S INVESTIGATION.

At 05:57 on Wednesday, June 18, Stations 264, 261, 259, 262, 102 RIT, and 325 Fire Police were dispatched for a rekindle of the house at 209 Hoffman Street in Shaler Township. (264's District).  NO FURTHER INFORMATION AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME PENDING THE ALLEGHENY COUNTY FIRE MARSHAL'S INVESTIGATION.

At 23:45 on Tuesday, June 17, Stations 264, 261, 259, 262, 102 RIT, and 325 Fire Police were dispatched for a residential structure fire at 209 Hoffman Street in Shaler Township. (264's District).  NO FURTHER INFORMATION AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME PENDING THE ALLEGHENY COUNTY FIRE MARSHAL'S INVESTIGATION.


Call # 101   06-15-08

Shortly after 16:00 on Sunday, June 15, 264 Truck along with stations 164, 165, and 261 was dispatched for a reported residential structure full of natural gas on Wyland Road in Hampton Township. (164's District).  After some confusion with commands, 264 Truck was requested to stand-by at Station 261.  All units were back in service around 17:00.


Call # 100   06-04-08

At 16:24 on Wednesday, June 4, 264 Truck along with Station 149, 260 Engine, 191 Truck, and 102 RIT were dispatched for a porch light that blew with a birds nest inside that is smoldering at 149 Grant in the Borough of Etna. (149's District).  149 Rescue was in route just after dispatch and immediately arrived on scene and reported a two and a half story brick structure with nothing showing.  Per 149 Command, the light on the porch was on fire and they were going to check for minor extension.  All units were disregarded with the exception of 149 Rescue 1 and 260 Rescue 1.  Station 264 went back into service at 16:30.


Call # 99   06-01-08

At 13:53 on Sunday, June 1, 264 Truck along with Stations 261, 164, 262 Truck, and 149 RIT were dispatched for a smell of natural gas inside of a residential structure at 209 Pamela Drive in Shaler Township. (261's District).  264 Truck and Engine responded with the other departments.  PD arrived on the scene and reported a smell in the house and that it could possibly be paint fumes and that they were going to clear the scene.  After an investigation of the interior, it was determined that it was indeed paint fumes.  All units were returned in service at 14:08.


Call # 98   06-01-08

At 00:53 on Sunday, June 1, Station 264 along with Stations 262, 149, 263, and 325 Fire Police were alerted for a commercial fire alarm activation at Shop-N-Save, 917 Butler Street (aka Route 8) in Shaler Township. (262's District).  264 Truck was in route with a full crew within 4 minutes of dispatch.  PD arrived on the scene and gained access inside the building and reported no apparent problem.  264 Engine stood by at the hydrant on Route 8.  All units that were not on the road were ordered to hold in quarters.  After an investigation, nothing was found and all units were returned in service at 01:16.
