FEBRUARY 2009 INCIDENTS

Call # 33   02-28-09

At 17:24 on Saturday, February 28, 264 Truck along with Station 261, 259 Engine 2, 247 Truck, and 149 RIT were dispatched for a possible residential structure fire at 212 Sandy Drive in Shaler Township. (261's District).  Caller reported smoke coming from the roof of the residence.  Another caller reported a chimney on fire.  261 Assistant arrived on scene and reported that it was just a wood burner.  All units went back into service at 17:31.


Call # 32   02-28-09

At 16:41 on Saturday, February 28, 264 Truck along with Station 261, 164 Engine 1, 247 Truck, and 149 RIT were dispatched for an unknown type of fire in the area of 2907 Angeline Drive in Shaler Township. (261's District).  Caller reported that the valley was full of smoke.  261 Assistant arrived on scene and reported a possible recreational fire and requested all units continue in.  It was confirmed that it was a rec fire and 261 units handled.  All other units returned in service at 16:46.


Call # 31   02-??-09

Stations 264, 261, 164, and 247 were dispatched for a smell of gas at 304 Elfinwild Lane in Shaler Township. (261's District).  Gas company was notified, smell dissipated and all units went back into service.  *NO COUNT REPORT FAXED ON CALL*


Call # 30   02-22-09

At 08:44 on Sunday, February 22, Station 264 and 261 Engine 1 were dispatched for a commercial fire alarm activation at Shaler EMS, 339 Wetzel Road, in Shaler Township. (264's District).  EMS personnel on scene reported burnt flap jacks.  264 Truck confirmed the report and all units went back into service at 09:00.


Call # 29   02-21-09

At 16:38 on Saturday, February 21, Station 264 were dispatched for a strong odor of natural gas outside in the area of Lindbergh Avenue and McDonald Street and Shaler Township. (264's District).  The source was determined to be a vehicle leaking fuel.  The leak was contained and all 264 units went back into service at 16:55.


Call # 28   02-21-09

At 14:17 on Saturday, February 21, Station 264 and 261 Engine 1 were dispatched for a residential fire alarm activation at 206 Circle Drive in Shaler Township. (264's District).  The alarm company called back and received proper code and reported a bad cook.  264 Truck was out on training and confirmed that report at 14:23.  All units went back into service at 14:23.


Call # 27   02-20-09

At 23:28 on Friday, February 20, Station 264 along with Station 149 were dispatched for a commercial fire alarm activation at the Wash & Wear Laundromat, 1 Dewey Street, in the Borough of Etna. (149's District).  149 Assistant arrived on scene and reported a smell and haze of smoke in the structure and requested the assignment be upgraded to a commercial structure fire assignment.  260 Engine 1, 191 Truck, and 102 RIT were added to the assignment.  149 Rescue took the hydrant in front of Fugh Hall, 264 Engine took the hydrant in front of the old Blarney Stone restaurant, and 264 Truck staged in front of the structure.  At 23:55, 149 Assistant reported that the scene was under control, there was a possible dryer fire, and the smoke was cleared.  Units searched the building with a camera and checked for extension.  All units went back into service at 00:22.


Call # 26   02-18-09

At 16:47 on Wednesday, February 18, 264 Truck along with Station 149, 260 Truck, 191 Engine 1, and 102 RIT were dispatched for reported strong yellow smoke coming from a vent pipe on the roof of a building in the area of VFW Way and Sycamore Street in the Borough of Etna. (149's District).  At 16:48, Etna PD arrived on scene and reported that it was just a wood burner and requested fire units take a disregard.  All 264 units went back into service at 16:50.


Call # 25   02-13-09

At 16:01 on Friday, February 13, Station 264 along with 261 Engine 1, 149 Engine 1, 262 Truck, 102 RIT, and Shaler Fire Police 325 were dispatched for a odor of natural gas inside of a residential structure at 1819 Vollmer Drive in Shaler Township. (264's District).  Shaler PD arrived on scene and reported no smell in the house and requested units proceed in with caution.  149 Rescue was the first unit on scene and 149 Chief assumed command.  After a search of the structure, it was determined to be cleaning products in the basement.  The assignment was held to 149 Rescue, 262 Truck, and 264 Engine.  Units vented the structure and went back into service at 12:25.


Call # 24   02-12-09

At 16:26 on Thursday, February 12, 264 Truck along with Station 261 and 247 Engine 1 were dispatched for a commercial fire alarm activation at Saint Bonaventure Church, 2001 Mount Royal Boulevard, in Shaler Township. (261's District).  At 16:32, 261 Chief arrived on scene and reported a multilevel structure with nothing showing.  After obtaining a key holder, the building was checked and nothing was found.  The alarm was reset and all units went back into service at 17:01.


Call # 23   02-10-09

At 04:48 on Tuesday, February 10, Station 264 was dispatched for a possible CO condition inside of a residence at 1004 Garden Place in Shaler Township. (264's District).  Shaler PD was on scene and requested a non-emergency response.  After an investigation, there were zero readings and no problem.  All units went back into service at 05:03.


Call # 22   02-09-09

At 17:42 on Monday, February 9, Station 264 was dispatched for wires sparking on a pole, wires attached to a residence, at 106 Lehr Avenue in Shaler Township. (264's District).  264 Engine and Squad responded and reported a bad transformer and requested Duquesne Light be notified to respond.  All 264 units cleared the scene at 17:59.


Call # 21   02-09-09

At 10:20 on Monday, February 9, 264 Truck along with Station 261 and 247 Engine 1 were dispatched for a commercial fire alarm activation at Elfinwild Volunteer Fire Company Station 261 at 2807 Mount Royal Boulevard in Shaler Township. (261's District).  Shaler PD arrived on scene and reported a false activation.  All units went back into service at 10:27.


Call # 20   02-06-09

At 15:29 on Friday, February 6, Station 264 along with 261 Rescue 3, 149 Rescue 1, and Shaler Fire Police 325 were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident, vehicle verses a deer, with a 49 year old female having an asthma attack, in front of 1418 Mount Royal Boulevard in Shaler Township. (264's District).  264 Chief responded in from Sharpsburg.  AT 15:31, Shaler EMS arrived on scene and reported no hazards or containment and requested fire units disregard.  All units went back into service at 15:33.


Call # 19   02-05-09

At 11:13 on Thursday, February 5, 264 Truck along with Station 261 and 164 Engine 1 were dispatched for a residential fire alarm activation at 310 Laurel Hill Road in Shaler Township. (261's District).  A key holder arrived on scene and found a pot on the stove.  All fire units were requested to disregard and all units went back into service at 11:26. 


Call # 18   02-04-09

At 20:09 on Wednesday, February 4, Station 264 was dispatched for a ruptured gasoline tank on a motor vehicle in the parking lot of the Shaler Lounge, 1702 Mount Royal Boulevard in Shaler Township. (264's District).  264 Engine and Squad responded for the containment detail.  All units went back into service at 20:34.

At 07:45 on Tuesday, February 3, Station 264 along with 261 Engine 1 were dispatched for a commercial fire alarm activation at Three Rivers Harley Davidson, 1463 Glenn Avenue in Shaler Township. (264's District).  264 Chief arrived on scene and reported nothing showing and requested all units disregard.  All units went back into service at 07:51. 


Call # 16   02-02-09

At 21:15 on Monday, February 2, Station 264 along with 261 Engine 1 were dispatched for a commercial fire alarm activation at Three Rivers Harley Davidson, 1463 Glenn Avenue in Shaler Township. (264's District).  264 Chief arrived on scene and reported nothing showing, confirming an alarm activation, and requested a non-emergency.  A key holder was notified to respond and all units went back into service at 21:33.
