DECEMBER 2008 INCIDENTS

Call # 230   12-31-08

At 08:36 on New Years Eve, Wednesday, December 31, Station 264 along with 149 Rescue 1, 261 Rescue 3, and Shaler Fire Police 325 were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment in front of 52 Kenneth Drive in Shaler Township. (264's District).  Caller reported one vehicle into a guardrail, driver did not appear to be injured, but was not getting out of the vehicle.  Shaler PD and 264 Engine and Squad arrived on scene and reported that the operator was fine and disregarded the Rescues.  264 Chief arrived on scene and put all units back in service.  All 264 units were clear of the scene and back in service at 08:48.


Call # 229   12-28-08

At 14:23 on Sunday, December 28, 264 Truck along with Station 149, 260 Truck, 191 Engine, and 102 RIT were dispatched for a reported ceiling collapse inside a commercial structure at 293 Butler Street in the Borough of Etna. (149's District).  149 Chief arrived on scene to investigate and reported a 3 story apartment style building and requested all units hold on station except for 149 Rescue.  149 Chief reported this to be a landlord-tenant dispute and that there was nothing the fire department could do.  149 Rescue was requested to respond non-emergency and all other units went back into service at 14:29.


Call # 228   12-28-08

At 08:43 on Sunday, December 28, 264 Truck along with Stations 164, 165, and 261 were dispatched for a possible electrical condition inside of a residential structure at 4449 Maple Lane in Hampton Township. (164's District).  Caller reported an electrical burning smell inside the residence, but could not pinpoint where it was coming from.  They did shut the power off to the residence.  Units arrived on scene, investigated, and switched to a fireground.  264 units went back into service at 09:14.


Call # 227   12-27-08

At 09:28 on Saturday, December 27, Station 264 was dispatched for a tree and wires on fire in the area of 811 Alexander Street in Shaler Township. (264's District).  264 Captain went into the scene and requested 264 units to hold on station.  He arrived on scene and reported branches on a wire on fire, the wires are in tact but the branches are causing them to catch on fire, power is out on the whole block, and for 264 Engine to respond non-emergency.  Duquesne Light was notified.  All 264 units went back into service at 10:09.


Call # 226   12-26-08

At 23:38 on Friday, December 26, Station 264 was dispatched for a flooding condition inside of a residence at 207 East Pennview Avenue in Shaler Township. (264's District).  Caller reported 2"- 3" of water in his basement.  264 Engine and Squad responded to pump the water from the basement.  It was determined to be sewage and Shaler Water Department was notified; they advised that the Road Department handles those types of emergencies.  Station 264 went back into service at 00:14. 


Call # 225   12-25-08

At 16:28 on Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25, Station 264 was dispatched for a flooding condition due to a broken water pipe inside the concessions building by the football field at the Shaler Area Middle School, 1800 Mount Royal Boulevard, in Shaler Township. (264's District).  264 Chief went to the scene to investigate and held 264 units on station.  After investigating with Shaler PD, 264 Chief put station 264 back in service and said that the Shaler Water Department would handle the problem.  Station 264 went back into service at 16:45.


Call # 224   12-15-08

At 17:53 on Monday, December 15, Station 262, 263 Engine 1, 264 Engine 1, and 174 Engine 1 were dispatched for a report of something on fire in the construction site of the new McDonald's, 871 William Flynn Highway (Route 8) in Shaler Township. (262's District).  262 Captain arrived on scene and reported that it was a controlled burn and requested all units return with the exception of 262 Truck.  Station 264 went back into service at 17:57.


Call # 223   12-13-08

At 22:04 on Saturday, December 13, Station 264 and 164 Engine 1 were dispatched for a possible CO condition inside of a residential structure at 116 Primrose Drive in Shaler Township. (261's District - Station 261 was out of service for the evening and 264 was covering 261's District).  Caller reported that she and her kids were feeling sick in the house and that the CO alarm was showing normal but she still feels that there is something wrong.  264 Engine and Squad responded, along with 164 Rescue and 264 Captain established command.  Units investigated and found no readings on any meters.  All units went back into service at 22:38. 


Call # 222   12-09-08

At 08:59 on Tuesday, December 9, 264 Truck along with Station 261, 164 Engine 1, 262 Truck, and 149 RIT were dispatched for reported smoke in a kitchen at 314 Coachman Road in Shaler Township. (261's District).  264 Chief arrived on scene and reported nothing showing from the exterior.  He began investigate and reported that there was a smell of smoke in the kitchen and requested all units continue.  After further investigation, it was determined to be a faulty refrigerator fan motor.  Crews checked for extension and unplugged the unit.  All units went back into service at 09:48. 


Call # 221   12-05-08

At 19:52 on Friday, December 5, 264 Truck along with Station 261, 164 Engine 1, 262 Truck, and 149 RIT were dispatched for a smell of something electrical burning inside of a residential structure at 102 Maryland Avenue in Shaler Township. (261's District).  264 Truck was immediately in route and first on scene.  Shaler PD advised that there was nothing obvious and would be possibly a problem with a light socket.  At 20:00, 261 Assistant arrived on scene and assumed command and 264 Chief took charge of operations.  261 Assistant requested 149 RIT, 262 Truck, and 164 Engine 1 to hold on station and 261 Engine 1 to respond in non-emergency.  Units switched to a fireground channel and shortly after, 261 Assistant reported that the problem was solved, and it was just too much on one outlet.  All 264 units went back into service at 20:14.
